Doynton is a small village which is closer to Bath than Bristol.
Doynton has a number of 17th or 18th century buildings, many of which are listed.
Back to topWe recently carried out a complete rewire of a large six-bedroom farmhouse in Doynton.
This was a fairly big project and, being a property that's nearly 300 years old. The age and construction of the building meant we had to carefully plan how we were going to route the new wiring while keeping as much of the original character of the property as possible.
The rewire included all the power and lighting throughout the farmhouse, along with the installation of a new electrical system to bring the property up to modern standards.
As the job progressed, the scope of the work grew. We ended up carrying out additional electrical work around the farm, including renewing the supplies to the borehole, cattle shed and various areas of external lighting.
Working on an older property like this takes a bit more thought than a standard rewire. You never quite know what you're going to find once you start opening things up, so having an experienced team made a big difference. We worked through the challenges as they came up and made sure the installation was completed properly rather than taking shortcuts.
It was a big job, but we were please with the end result. The farmhouse now has a completely renewed electrical installation, giving the property a safe and reliable system that should keep it going for many more years.
The additional work around the farm also meant we could have the wider electrical installation in much better condition, rather than just concentrating on the house itself.
Back to topDoynton has historic stone cottages, former farmhouses, Converted barns, Victorian properties and some mid-20th century homes. With properties of this age and variety, I come across electrical installations that have been altered and upgraded at different times.
Due to these older properties within Doynton it causes issues with older fuse consumer units will be found in these properties which may not have modern RCD or RCBO protection. Ageing wiring can cause deteriorated PVC wiring and properties which have not been rewired for many years, older rubber-insulated cable.
I have also came across installations where earthing and bounding need attention. Rather than assuming an older property needs a complete rewire.
I regularly carry out:
✅ EICRs (Electrical Installation Condition Reports)
✅ Loft Extensions, Electrical Supplies
